Local photographer Julie Prickett watches as her daughter, Kaylee, uses a welder’s mask supplied by fellow photographer Johnny Deal, to look at the solar eclipse just before 3 p.m. on Monday, April 8 from Bethesda Presbyterian Church in downtown Camden. The photographs of the eclipse itself — including one in which lightly red-purple prominences “shooting” off the sun can be seen at the right and bottom edges at the point of totality — were taken by Rickey Stilley, regional IT manager for the Chronicle-Independent‘s parent company, Paxton Media Group. Although officially on vacation at the time, Stilley, who lives in Georgia, took the pictures while visiting another Paxton newspaper in Batesville, Ark.
